The European University Cyprus (EUC), a private university located in Nicosia, Cyprus, is
home to the Centre of Excellence in Risk and Decision Sciences (CERIDES). CERIDES
is a leading Mediterranean research institution specializing in Occupational Safety &
Health, Disaster and Emergency Management, and Safety & Security. The center fosters
long-term international collaborations that aim to create safer and more secure societies
across the region. As part of its commitment to advancing the field of Internet of Things
(IoT) and Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) communications, the CERIDES
telecommunications technology team is actively contributing to the MedSecurance
project. The team is providing expertise in security, privacy, and standardization of IoMT
communications. CERIDES is focused on developing the IoT Communications
Recommendation Tool, which consists of five distinct sub-tools / components:
1. MedSec Protocol Evaluator
This sub-tool is an IoT/IoMT communications protocol evaluator that features a user-
friendly, intuitive interface. It guides users through identifying vulnerabilities, prioritizing
risks, and generating comprehensive reports. The tool supports both automated
scanning and expert-driven analysis, making it adaptable to various healthcare IoT/IoMT
communication scenarios. It also provides valuable insights and recommendations to
enhance the security of the evaluated communication protocols in healthcare
applications.
2. MedSec Device Manager
The MedSec Device Manager is a comprehensive solution that enables healthcare
organizations to maintain an accurate inventory of their devices, enforce policies, and
ensure compliance with operational, security, and safety standards. It is designed to
accommodate the dynamic and diverse nature of IoT and IoMT networks, allowing users
to manage and secure their device ecosystem effectively.
3. MedSec Mitigator
The MedSec Mitigator empowers organizations and users to proactively address
vulnerabilities within IoT/IoMT communication protocols. This tool offers clear, actionable
recommendations and guidance on secure protocol replacements and configuration
settings to balance security with operational efficiency. Regular updates and integration
with existing systems ensure the tool remains effective in addressing evolving threats.
4. MedSec Monitor Matrix
The MedSec Monitor Matrix is a robust real-time monitoring system designed to detect
anomalies and potential security threats in IoT/IoMT networks swiftly. It provides users
with clear alerts and actionable insights to facilitate quick responses and ensure the
integrity and security of the communication ecosystem.
5. MedSec Auth Manager
The MedSec Auth Manager offers a comprehensive solution for user authentication and
access control, addressing challenges related to scalability, dynamic environments, and
security vulnerabilities. It prioritizes security while ensuring user convenience and
flexibility in the authentication process.
All tools are currently under development and have been tested by use-case partners.
Our efforts to contribute to international standardization and collaborate with various
entities have been integral to the project’s success. This collaboration resulted in other
